The Only FDA-Certified Laser That Treats Gum Disease
Don't Let Gum Disease Stand In Your Way
Don't think of gum disease as a minor ailment. Gum disease is tied to other medical conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, and certain types of cancer. Treating gum disease means treating your oral and overall health. Luckily, these diseases are easy to prevent and treat with our laser gum surgery in Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, NC.
Gum Disease Symptoms
Inflammation and gum bleeding are symptoms of gum disease in its early stages. As gum disease progresses, the symptoms will include gum recession and pain. Your gums will begin to form pockets, which allow bacteria and plaque free rein on your gums. This causes gum recession. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, reach out to our periodontists.
In its worst stages, periodontal gum disease can result in the loss of teeth and bone. But with our laser gum surgery services in Raleigh, Durham, and Raleigh, NC, you can see these effects reverse.

What Is Laser Gum Surgery?
LANAP® is our top choice for gum surgery and is the only FDA-cleared laser protocol available for gum disease. Our laser gum surgery benefits include less pain and less downtime, along with no inconvenient sutures.

The Basic Steps of LANAP®
Our doctors choose LANAP® for our gum disease treatments. Our periodontists perform the Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP®) in two convenient sessions of 2-3 hours each.
The first step in this gum disease treatment involves sitting down with one of our doctors. We begin by assessing your gum pocket depth and any possible loss of attachment. Once our doctors have measured the extent of your gum disease, it's time for LANAP®.
LANAP® is performed with PerioLase® MVP-7™, a cutting-edge laser built to attack all gum disease bacteria. The light from this laser will target your diseased tissue and bacteria, leaving your healthy tissue intact. Best of all, this procedure requires no sutures or scalpels.
After this first round, your periodontist will carefully remove any calculus deposits from your roots. We use ultrasonic scalers to remove these deposits.
Your periodontist will bring out the PerioLase® MVP-7™laser again to gently agitate your roots, tissue, and bone underneath the gum line. By doing this, we encourage blood clotting and allow your blood to seal around your teeth. A seal helps your healing process after gum disease treatment.
Lastly, your doctor will evaluate the overall gum disease treatment and make adjustments. Your doctor will compress your gum tissue, help adjust your bite, and make any last adjustments necessary. You'll be able to walk out of our office with a smile!
After the LANAP® Gum Disease Treatment
Because of LANAP®'s cutting-edge technology, most patients can return to work the next day. Any pain or discomfort can be handled with over-the-counter pain medicine. We rarely prescribe stronger prescription medicine after gum disease treatment. Your recovery process will be much faster than with traditional gum disease treatments.
Traditional Gum Disease Surgery
vs. LANAP® Gum Disease Treatment
In our experience, patients who undergo LANAP® experience less pain and less discomfort than those who choose traditional/osseous surgery. This is because laser surgery does not require painful suturing and cutting. Your healthy tissue will always remain intact.
Inflammation is also easier to handle with LANAP®. The laser eliminates the bacteria in your gum pockets, helping prevent inflammation by up to 90% after your first session. Less inflammation also means faster recovery time, helping you return to work the day after your surgery.
LANAP® also prevents gum recession, an unfortunate side effect of traditional gum disease surgery. Gum recession occurs when healthy tissue must be cut to gain access to the diseased tissue. But LANAP® can prevent gum recession of up to 15 millimeters.
This laser gum treatment in Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, NC, also provides long-lasting health benefits. The laser's effects help encourage bone regeneration, which is a great benefit for those suffering from progressive bone loss. Bone loss is a serious health complication that occurs from advanced periodontal disease. If you're suffering from this complication, consider LANAP® for your gum surgery.
